Hey there

After 9 months of development, I'm happy to announce Redcore Linux Hardened 2004 (codename Neptune) is finally here. Alongside hundreds of package updates and way to many bugfixes to count, this release will make the maintenance of the system much more easy. Many previously overcomplicated tasks have been greatly simplified. As an example, the installation of nvidia proprietary drivers is now only 1 step process, down from 8.

Unfortunately, we have a sad news as well. Due to maintenance burden, from now on, we will only provide KDE Plasma iso images, dropping Lxqt variant entirely. Users are urged to use the KDE Plasma variant instead. Over the last years the Plasma Desktop evolved nicely, and gone are the days when it consumed a huge amount of resources. It can run really well on lower end machines. On our tests we saw a CPU usage sitting between 0-1% and memory usage sitting at around 330-360Mb.

Note :

While upgrading from older releases is possible, if it fails for some reason the system will be broken. This is because the new release is built using a new, updated toolchain. So, for older, out-of-date installations we recommend a fresh install, rather than an upgrade. It will save a lot of time, as the upgrade will take a few hours replacing every single package. Up-to-date installations won't need this, since due to our rolling release nature, they will already have the latest release.
