Hey there Redcore Linux lovers!
It is our pleasure to announce that Redcore Linux 1801 Intercrus BETA ISO image is now ready and available for download from the usual place. This cycle we focused mostly on the look'n'feel of the distribution, completely overhauling the artwork. You may notice some rough edges though, as we're not finished yet. In addition we packed some new features in, and we really hope you will like it. Here is a brief changelog since Redcore Linux 1710:
- resync with Gentoo portage tree (13.01.2018)
- linux kernel LTS 4.14.13 with MuQSS and UKSM enabled by default for maximum desktop performance
- linux kernel LTS 4.9.76 with MuQSS, BFQ and UKSM enabled by default available in the repository
- toolchain updated with GCC 6.4.0, Glibc 2.25, Clang 5.0.1
- default python 3 interpretor is now python 3.5
- elogind is now the default session tracker, replacing good old consolekit
- the installer will now allow you a true Full Disk Encryption scheme, you can encrypt as many partitions you want
- we reduced RAM requirement for installation to 1Gb, but we kept the space requirement of 20Gb in place
- we also tuned some installer parameters, so it will install the system a lot faster than previous releases
- graphics stack updated with Mesa 17.3.1, LLVM 5.0.1, Libdrm 2.4.89
- qt5 updated to 5.9.3 LTS, kde frameworks updated to 5.41, kde apps to 17.12.1
- sisyphus package manager received some attention with improved multithreading, signals and now it actually shows what it does, a feature requested by many
- lxqt desktop is now composited by default, using compton, so you will have a tear free experience across the board
- unified look for GTK/QT applications enabled by default, no more changing the theme in 3 different places or per toolkit to get a consistent look
- samba usershare is now enabled by default, and the pcmanfm-qt file manager is now able to share/unshare any folder over the network with just a click (we basically copied Gnome nautilus-share extension functionality, and wrote our own extension for pcmanfm-qt)
- switching wireless networks will now ask for a password instead of silently failing
- many bugfixes and security fixes (KPTI enabled for MELTDOWN mitigation, firewall enabled by default)
- we're monitoring the progress on SPECTRE fixes, and we'll push them as soon as they're available
Note : This is NOT a final or a stable release, so we advise you to use it for testing purposes only. And if you find any bugs, please report them on our bugtracker or give us a shout on irc@freenode.
